Summary

Five hundred years ago, Tallith was a utopia, populated by a proud and privilged people, none more so than Crown Prince Aurek, and his twin sister Aurelia. With their golden eyes and silver hair, the twins were the jewel in the crown of the realm, light and dark, night and day. The bright future of Tallith seemed assured in their hands.

But then the rats came.

From across the seas, they summon the rat catcher, desperate to rid their people of the plague attacking the very heart of Tallith. But the rat catcher brings with him more than just his trade; a beautiful daughter who will bow to no man. And when prince Aurek decides he will have her, come what may, he sets in motion a chain of events that will reshape the world for centuries to come...

A companion story to The Sin Eater's Daughter series.

Review

We've heard this story on the pages of book #1, we've got that it was a lie in book #2 and learned new details, but here is the truth. He is the story of a great kingdom Tallith and its falling, of a prince who became a legend, a person with whom mothers scare their children to behave, and of a man who lost everything while scheming against the king.

The Sleeping Prince in his youth wasn't any different from the Sleeping Prince we know from the second installment. He's selfish, lusty, constantly bored, and amazingly talented. But back then he wasn't that skilled with his talents, wasn't completely self-centered, knew how to entertain himself without eating maiden's hearts, and yes, his joy was depending on his lust. You'll see his struggle, his triumph, and his punishment. You'll know why he wants what he wants in the main trilogy. You'll understand him better.

I say again that Salisbury's writing style is alchemy itself. Magical, golden, beautiful. I'm already miss her lines and hope she won't leave me without yet another series after the final of this one.
